ForKids’ 25th Annual Art Auction Raises $2 Million-Plus for Families in Need

Powered by the generosity of local businesses, community leaders, and supporters from across Hampton Roads, the 25th Annual ForKids Art Auction smashed its $2 million goal, raising critical funds to support children and families experiencing homelessness.
More than 525 guests attended the “Legendary”-themed event on Saturday, March 21, in Norfolk, marking a milestone year for one of the region’s most impactful and unique philanthropic gatherings. Former staff, longtime donors, and community partners traveled back to Norfolk to be part of the 25th anniversary celebration, underscoring the lasting impact of the event and the deep connections it has built over time.
A record 94 local businesses and individual sponsors—including lead sponsors The Dragas Companies, MANCON, the Sokol Family Foundation, Checkered Flag, Enspire Energy (a Gas South company), COVA Brewing Company, and TowneBank—made the night possible. Their generosity ensured that every dollar raised goes directly to programs that provide housing, education, and economic mobility for families.
This year’s success comes at a critical time.
“This isn’t about breaking records just to celebrate an anniversary,” said ForKids CEO Thaler McCormick. “We do this because a record number of families are struggling to pay rent, utilities, medical bills, and still put food on the table. Families in our community need us more than ever.”
McCormick also underscored the impact of the community’s support: “Because of this community’s generosity, every dime we raised at the Art Auction will go to support our families. We do this to take care of children and families that we will never meet—but whose lives will be changed because we—all of us—cared enough to help.”
The evening featured powerful storytelling, performances, and one-of-a-kind children’s art and auction packages—all centered on a shared purpose: ensuring every child has a safe, stable home.
What began 25 years ago as a scrappy fundraiser raising $22,000 has grown into a cornerstone community event that has now generated millions in support for local families. That very first auction was made possible through the early leadership and generosity of partners like Taste (formerly Taste Unlimited), Auctioneer John Marshall, and the Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach—organizations and individuals honored again in this year’s 25th anniversary celebration.
Over the years, the Art Auction has helped ForKids serve thousands of families and children—an estimated 250,000 households or 650,000 individuals—proving what’s possible when a community comes together with purpose.
“From longtime partners to new supporters, the Art Auction reflects the very best of Hampton Roads—a community willing to do ‘whatever it takes’ to lift up our neighbors,” McCormick said. “ForKids extends its deepest gratitude to all sponsors, donors, volunteers, and guests who made this milestone event possible.”
